Yetholm is to have its own SFA Football Centre of Excellence, it was announced at the weekend.
Drew Kelly, SFA football development officer for the Borders, said the decision to open the centre resulted from the success of the inaugural Borders 5-a-side football tournament, held on Saturday.

Six teams entered the tournament, which will now become an annual event.

The teams were: Sprouston Thistles, Morebattle Colts, Morebattle Star, Yetholm Minis, Panda Pirates, from Longridge, and Flamenco, a scratch team formed for the occasion.

All competitors received a certificate and an SFA water bottle but, under UEFA regulations, no winners were announced.

The chair of the organising committee, Ian Reid, said the event, sponsored by Simply Mortgages, Maxwell Motors, C&R Tyres, the Border Hotel and The Plough Hotel, had raised more than £500 towards SFA football training for Yetholm children.

"We are delighted with the way the year's tournament has gone," he added. "We have laid a solid foundation on which we can build in future years."

What do you think of the various video pieces we upload to the website?
They're a good idea and I always have a look
So far so good but I'd like to see more in terms of numbers and variety
I never watch them
