Innerleithen residents get arty with donated packs

Elderly residents at Mercer Court, a housing with care development at Innerleithen, have been kept busy by staff who have donated activity packs.

And their work is also brightening up the Hanover Scotland-run building, with their colouring-in being displayed in their flats and corridors.

Development manager Kathleen Ewart explained: “The staff here just wanted to give our residents something to fo to relieve the boredom during the Covid-19 lockdown, and put together packs with puzzles and colouring-in pictures for them to work on.

“We were a bit short on the likes of felt pens, so we asked Martha Gibson, who owns the local Treasure Island gift shop, if she had any in stock.

“Martha has also been using the shop’s ice cream van to get groceries to locals who can’t get out.

“She was lovely, and donated the pens for free.

“The packs are a big hit with the residents, especially the colouring-in pictures.

“The results have been so good, they are now being put up all over the building.

“They really brighten the place up.”
