Police are hunting a would-be thief who escaped empty-handed after a failed armed robbery at a shop in Galashiels on Tuesday evening.
The suspect – described as white, slim-to-medium build and around six feet tall – threatened a female cashier with a weapon in the Late Shop in Wood Street at 7.20pm and made a bungled attempt to steal cash from the till before escaping into the street. He was wearing a black woolly hat, dark woolly scarf, black or blue jacket and blue jeans.
Yesterday detectives were at the store reviewing CCTV footage as part of an ongoing investigation and police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them immediately.
