I share with Councillor Carolyn Riddell-Carre her faith in the common sense of the villagers of Newtown St Boswells.
Borders folk are known for their common sense and good memory. They will remember that she clearly knows what is best for the village without talking to its residents.

In 2005, Councillor Riddell-Carre pushed for the massive village expansion whic
h will see Newtown inundated with more than 1,200 new houses – but she did not feel the need to consult with anybody in the village.

In similar vein, the good people of Selkirk will remember when she voted for the betting shop to take over the former post office in Selkirk, contrary to the wishes of Selkirk Community Council. People will remember her repeated quibbling with community council minutes in Selkirk and Newtown, and her subsequent refusal to attend meetings when she did not get her own way.

When the next local authority elections come round, they will remember that Mrs Riddell-Carre has "better things to do with her time" than come to community council meetings to hear the concerns of local residents.

I am sure they will use their common sense and give her plenty of time to do whatever she likes.

Today's Vote

Do you think Borderers are doing enough about the controversial proposals to our Post Offices?
Yes: we can have our say at the public meetings and lobby our MPs and MSPs
No: we really need to stand up and let the Government know that these cuts won't be tolerated
No sure
