READER Walter Baxter, estates officer at the Borders General Hospital, caught this rather unexpected visitor with his camera - a white stork, which landed on the entrance canopy at the hospital.
He takes up the story: "Apart from occasionally being mobbed by a couple of crows, it seemed perfectly happy on the canopy and unconcerned by pedestrian and vehicular traffic below.

"I couldn't make out if it was ringed from my viewpoint and it is probably either an escaped bird or it is just possible that it is wild.

"Unfortunately, I had to return to my office, but it was there for quite a while."

It's unknown if the rare sighting signalled a happy event in the maternity ward.
